Live Chainsaw Wood Carving
Watch a giant dragonfly-inspired piece of art come to life in a live demonstration as part of Dragonfly Festival.
Experience something truly unforgettable this summer as expert wood sculptor Garry from Wildboar Carvings transforms raw timber into a stunning dragonfly sculpture... right before your eyes!
Using a combination of chainsaw work, power tools and fine hand detailing, Garry will carefully shape and carve wood into a piece of art to celebrate the beauty and wonder of dragonflies as part of Dragonfly Festival. The bespoke piece will become a lasting feature of the Millennium Wetlands reserve for all of our visitors to enjoy.
This is a unique chance to see a live chainsaw carving demonstration in action. Watch the carving take shape hour by hour, day by day, and see the skill and precision behind every movement master craftsman Garry makes. The piece will be finished with some handpainting that's both sympathetic to the wood and a salute to the captivating jewel colours of our dragonfly species.

Directions: You’ll find the carving site near the viewing screen overlooking the Western Scrapes. To get there:
- Head out from the Visitor Centre, past the Water Lab, and cross the bridge towards the Heron’s Wing Hide
- Follow the path from the hide as it curves downhill to the bench and signpost
- Turn left, then right - you'll see the sculpture taking shape there
- You can also follow the Dragonfly Festival signage and the map in your Dragonfly Festival programme.
Cost: Included in your entrance ticket price, which is free for WWT members.

How accessible is the wood carving demonstration at WWT Llanelli?
The route to the carving area is wheelchair, pushchair and mobility scooter accessible and step-free.
There will be ear defenders available for people who are sensistive to loud sounds to borrow.
