Landrover Safaris (Yesterday)
The two hour safaris leave at 11.00 and 14.00 today. Yesterday we had good views of the young Crane and its parents in company with a Roe Deer. Dragonflies were good in the sunshine. Emperors, Brown Hawkers, Common and Ruddy Darter along with hundreds of Damselflies were all seen well. Bird highlights included great views of a Marsh Harrier, young Shelducks, distant Curlews, a good mix of Ducks in the reed beds and Great Crested Grebe. There were Grass Snakes under the tin on both trips.
Car Park; A good early morning venue, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat and a Reed Warbler recorded this morning.
Rushy; Two Cranes were in here this morning, Green Sandpipers numbered 8 which were disturbed by a Sparrowhawk.
Martin Smith; Great Views of Kingfisher and a juvenile Garganey. One of the Cranes was very close.
Robbie Garnett; A further 8 Green Sandpipers here along with 10 Teal and another Crane.
Holden Tower; Rather quiet, 90 Barnacles and a single Whitethroat in the hedge.
Zeiss Hide
A Buzzard flushed 91 Teal and 3 Green Sandpipers from the back of the field. There were 90 roosting Black Tailed Godwit and a single Greenshank and a flock of 50 Lapwing with a single adult Dunlin among them.
South Lake Hide
110 Black Tailed Godwit may have been the same flock as recorded at the Zeiss Hide. There were 27 Redshank and 4 Ruff of various sizes among them. A very persistent young Great Crested Grebe is good value as it pursues its parents for food.
