Although we're gearing up for our Wild Winter Weekend tomorrow there are already signs of Spring across the reserve.
South Lake
A pair of Oystercatcher were outside the Discovery Hide this morning whilst out on the wader scrape were 6 Avocet, 351 Black-tailed Godwit and several hundred Lapwing. The deep lake was very quiet, possibly due to the wind with just 40 Pochard, 7 Cormorant, 11 Tufted Duck mostly sheltering up near the trees.
Martin Smith Hide
At least 8 Snipe were on the left hand island this morning
Zeiss Hide
Several hundred Lapwing were on the Top New Piece this morning along with 800+ Teal, 240 Wigeon, 10 Tufted Duck and 5 Pochard. A Cetti's Warbler was singing from the reedbed.
Rushy Hide
Late news for yesterday of 3 Green Sandpiper at the evening (6:30pm) swan feed. This morning at least 89 Bewick's Swans werecounted and a Great Egret flew over towards the river.
Estuary Tower
The White-fronted Goose flock were to the north in the Ox Piece field with another 4 birds closer on the Tack Piece and a few further north in the Stall House field. A total of 1118 Wigeon were on the Tack Piece with 71 Redshank and 22 Ruff. Over the seawall on the Dumbles were 2 Peregrine plus another 232 Wigeon on Dumbles scrape. a Skylark was singing overhead - another sign of Spring!
