Whooper swans arrive from Iceland

A mini-swanfall has happened this week as northerly winds make it feel like autumn.

We have now welcomed back over 100 whooper swans who will spend their winter on the Ouse Washes. These birds have successfully made the 1,200 mile migration from Iceland across the North Atlantic Ocean, Scotland and Northern England. Scenes of swans grazing on the reserve and bathing in the pools, are making it feel that autumn is well and truly here. As well as the increase in swans, ducks such as teal and wigeon can be seen arriving and flocking up, and the first flocks of lapwing can be seen across the landscape.
