First whooper swan family

Whooper swan family smallThe first family of whooper swans have arrive overnight and are on the main lagoon this morning resting and grazing.  The two adult birds are unringed but have with them three beautiful cygnets.

We started to see the first few flocks in the surrounding farmland this morning which will become more of a regular sighting in the coming weeks.

We expect to see lots more whooper swans and potentially the first Bewick's swans over the next 48 hours as wind direction is now more favourable for migrating.

There are also lots of ducks on the reserve, in particular with wigeon numbers increasing, and some of them have already been disturbed by marsh harrier doing patrols this morning.
