The squacco heron has not been seen yet today. Yesterday afternoon it was moving South along the washes and was moved on further away fcrom the hide by a marsh harrier. Out on the reserve there are plenty of house martins and swallows about with cuckoos calling from the reedbeds and snipe drumming, with one individual sitting on a post giving great views of itself despite the weather.
The photo shown is of the squacco heron at Welney yesterday and has been kindly sent in by Chris Baines.
