Today's Highlights

White-fronted goose - 3 (Nelson-Lyle hide)
Ruff - Nelson-Lyle hide
Goldeneye - 1 drake at the back of the reserve
Great white egret - 1 (Friends hide)
Peregrine - 1 hunting the flocks of black-tailed godwit
Stonechat

The black-tailed godwits put on an amazing display today as they tried to evade the peregrine on site.  As the peregrine moved along the reserve all the ducks on the back washes scattered towards the side of the reserve with the hides.  The godwits took off from the islands in front of the main hide and moved in a cloud towards the summer walk, here they started to land but were put up again by the peregrine which split the flock with its attempts to pick out a single bird.  Half the flock continued South down the reserve, the others moving back past the main hide to the Northern end of the reserve - phew!!
