Membership changes
for young people

What is changing?

From 1 April 2023, we are making a small change to our Young Person membership category. The name of this category will change from Young Person to Junior, and we are also increasing the maximum age for this category from 16 to 17 years. This change means a Junior membership will now be open to new and existing members aged 4 to 17 years.

At the same time, the maximum age of children in our Family membership category will rise from 16 to 17 years.

Also from 1 April 2023, we will be introducing a new membership category, Young Adult. This will be available to new and existing members who are aged 18 to 24 years.

Members who joined before 1 April 2023

If you joined as a Young Person member before 1 April 2023, you do not need to do anything. Your membership card will still be valid when visiting, even if it says Young Person. Your membership category will automatically change to Junior on all future communications.

At your next renewal, you will be informed of the membership options available to you. If you no longer fit into your current membership category you can switch to another membership category which better suits your age and situation.

And, if you have a Family membership, you do not need to do anything either. The maximum age of all children within your membership will rise from 16 to 17 years. Again, at your next renewal, you can choose to switch to another membership category should you wish which better suits your age and situation.

New members

If you are aged 4 to 17 years you can join as a Junior member, which costs £2 a month or £24 a year. And if you are aged 18 to 24 years you can join as a Young Adult member, which costs £2.50 a month or £30 a year.

And if you are taking out a Family membership, the maximum age for any children within the membership will now be 17 years.

When will these changes take effect?

1 April 2023.

Why is WWT making these changes?

We think it’s vitally important that WWT membership is accessible to all – irrespective of your age, background, culture or identity. By making these changes we hope it will help us to inspire the next generation on the importance of wetlands and the amazing wildlife that live within them.
